I’m Garrett Mindt, a philosopher working in metaphysics, philosophy of mind & consciousness, philosophy of science, epistemology, and philosophy of AI and technology.

I’m an assistant professor of philosophy at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and Program Director at the Center for the Future Mind. Before joining the faculty at FAU, I was the Future of Intelligence Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for the Future Mind advised by Susan Schneider. Before moving to Boca Raton to work on the Future of the Mind I was the Elizabeth R Koch Research Fellow for Tiny Blue Dot Consciousness Studies, a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a fellow of the Wisconsin Institute of Sleep and Consciousness (WISC), under the supervision of Giulio Tononi.

Before moving to Madison, WI I lived for ~5 years in Budapest, Hungary where I conducted my doctoral research, I received my Ph.D. from Central European University under the supervision of Philip Goff and Tim Crane. My dissertation was focused on whether and in what way we might give an information-theoretic explanation of phenomenal experience using the hard problem of consciousness as a target. I received my MA from the University of Liverpool under the supervision of Barry Dainton working on a thesis investigating the philosophical implications of Integrated Information Theory (IIT) of Consciousness.
